Cabo Pulmo was originally a small fishing village that has transformed itself into a great spot for day diving trips. While the area maintains its original rustic charm, the protection afforded the marine life has seen a large increase in the number and size of fish on its reefs. It also is a way stop for schools of cow nose rays, mobula rays and even the occasional whale shark. Cabo Pulmo is worth the added effort for a day trip for the great scuba diving it offers.

Inside the Marine Park are about 7 proper dive sites, all with coral reef formations and lots of marine life. We have found these two sights to offer the best encounters for our divers.

• El Bajo - 55 feet deep

  The reef is a slender finger not more than 100 feet/30 meters wide and surrounded by sand populated with thousands of garden eels. Drawn to the coral reef are jacks, grouper, pargo, sea turtles, grunts, snappers and all manner of reef fish.

  This is also a good sight for the occasional encounter with schools of cow nose rays, whale sharks and manta rays during algae blooms, sights you are not likely to forget! Occasionally we even see bull sharks gliding over the reef!

• El Cantil - 55 feet deep

  The reef here has larger structures, more areas for fish to congregate and hide. Hovering over the reef are large schools of jacks, snapper mixed in with many large grouper. All the usual small life is also found on the reef, wrasse, triggerfish, blennies, gobies, but keep an eye open for the bat rays and even the occasional manta ray gliding by.

Like all other dive shops in Cabo San Lucas, Barefoot Dive Pro runs our tours by air-conditioned van to Cabo Pulmo and then uses one of the local dive operators there. Our PADI Instructor/staff photographer, accompany you on the trip to make sure that everything is well organized and fun.
