Cabo Adventures | Dive Gordo Banks | Los Cabos
Join the professionals at Barefoot Dive Pro for a premier style cabo adventure, diving Gordo Banks. Located about an hour 20 minutes by boat from Cabo San Lucas, Gordo Banks is the top of an underwater mountain that just breaks the depth allowed by recreational scuba diving at 115 feet/35 meters. This is an advanced blue water dive, suitable for those with experience and up to date diving skills.
We typically use enriched air NITROX on the dive which allows us to extend the dive by approximately 30% bottom time on the first dive, and by even more on the second dive as opposed to diving on air. On this trip the use of mixed gas is highly recommended. If you are not yet certified to dive with enriched air, you can easily complete this course with us during the dives to Gordo Banks.
You can easily earn your PADI NITROX certification with us, there are not even any tables to learn anymore, it is a computer based course. Make the most of PADI © eLearning by completing all theory ahead of time, then dive with us to complete the course! If you will be adding © eLearning Nitrox certification to your Gordo Banks trip, you will need to pay PADI for the online training, and then just pay Barefoot Dive Pro the normal trip fee to Gordo Banks to complete your Nitrox certification.
The dives are conducted as multi-level, beginning with a reference line to aid descent down to 115 feet/35 meters and then circling the top of the rocky pinnacle. Looking up into the blue for schooling hammerheads, tuna, jacks and more. Once our bottom time begins to run low we multi-level up to about 60 feet/18 meters and let the current take us along on a drift. Good buoyancy is key here and our guides send up a SMB (surface marker buoy) at this point for our divers to use as a visual reference.
During the drift we can encounter almost anything, schooling jacks, wahoo, the hammerheads, whale sharks, devil rays and even sometimes silky sharks show up.
