Barefoot Dive Pro Staff, Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

We’d like to introduce you to the team that teaches our PADI Open Water Diver courses through to the Barefoot Divemaster Internships and PADI Instructor training. Janneke Louwes B.sc

PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer, EFR Instructor, B.sc in Wildlife Management

Janneke is originally from Holland where she grew up with a passion for whales and all things aquatic. After several years of training and working in the Medical field she decided to follow her passion for marine life and learn to dive.

Janneke has travelled, worked and dove all across the world, including Egypt, Turkey, Thailand, Panama, Honduras, Mexico and the Dutch Caribbean. Now with a B.sc in Biology Janneke heads up the environmental and conservation projects that Barefoot is involved in like Project AWARE, and The Shark Legacy Project. She is also an active dive instructor, specialties being her passion, including Digital Underwater Photography and Underwater Naturalist, which makes each dive with Janneke something fun and educational.

Janneke also spends a lot of her time working with groups who prefer educational and photo pro tours with whales here in Cabo San Lucas during the months of December through April. You can read more about Janneke’s Whale Watching Trips by clicking on the button.

Peter Wilcox

PADI Course Director, DSAT Instructor Trainer, EFR Instructor Trainer, DAN Instructor Trainer, Dive Medic Technician NBMDHT

Peter is originally from Victoria, B.C. but grew up all over Canada and the USA. From an early age he was always in the water, surfing, snorkeling and grew up with a fascination for marine life. After some years studying Marine Biology, Peter left traditional academics behind to work as a naturalist in the worlds aquarium as a PADI Pro.

Peter has worked and dove all over the world as a PADI Instructor for the last 11 years. In 2006 Peter was accepted into the Course Director program and earned the highest rating possible in the recreational diving industry. Since then he has added other Instructor Trainer qualifications and has won awards every year for his PADI Instructor training programs.

In 2008 Peter conceptualized a unique methodology for a shark conservation project, non-economic valuation studies as a tool to leverage governments assistance in the creation of Marine Protected Areas and The Shark Legacy Project was born. Since the initial projects success in Roatan, in 2009 Honduras declared all of its territorial waters a shark sanctuary, Peter continues to pursue shark conservation as the Executive Director of the Shark Legacy Project.

So the natural thing for Peter to specialize in with Barefoot Dive Pro, other than being the Head of Professional Diver Programs, was to set up and guide divers on Whale Shark trips to La Paz. During the months of September to January Peter is often guiding our groups to wonderful, fun and even educational encounters with these amazing, and HUGE, sharks!
