Whale Shark Snorkeling Trips, Cabo San Lucas, La Paz
As whale shark tourism has seen a strong rise in recent years, so have whale shark tours and operators. The PADI Instructors of Barefoot Dive Pro have been active in whale shark data collection, research and conservation for a combined 12 years, unmatched in Cabo San Lucas.
We are proud partners of both Project Aware and Ecocean’s Whale Shark Project of data collection and conservation programs. We always send a professional photographer along on these trips, the images they take are not only for your free photo CD, but also uploaded to the Ecocean website for visual tagging purposes.
Trips leave Cabo San Lucas at 7am in an air-conditioned van, travelling to La Paz. Once there we check in with one of the local dive shops who have spotter planes up helping us find the sharks. Then we gear up and head off for about 3 hours of spotting, snorkeling and photographing the whale sharks. Occasionally we also encounter giant mantas and playful sea lions.
We provide bottled water, soda and snacks until we have lunch, after the snorkeling on the way back to Cabo at a traditional Mexican restaurant. We also provide mask, snorkels, fins and wetsuits. Water temps can be cool, but at most we recommend a 3mm shorty wetsuit. We do recommend that you bring biodegradable sunscreen, hats and towels to dry off before the trip back.
